On March 16, at 2 p.m. Ambassador David J. Smith, Director of the Georgian Security Analysis Center, Tbilisi, and Senior Fellow at the Potomac Institute for the Policy Studies, Washington, will deliver a lecture, titled “Gori: Geopolitical Epicenter – Why the War Happened Here”, at the Gori University II Building English Language Library.

On March 2, 2010 Rector, Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili congratulated the University lady-colleagues on the Women Day at the Gori University renovated Ist building. He wished them success and presented commemorative presents to them. Also congratulating the ladies were: Levan Midodashvili (Head of the University Quality Assurance Service), Davit Bidzinashvili (Head of the Administration) and Mamuka Jolbordi (Head of the Humanities Quality Assurance Service). Professors Klara Elchibegashvili, Tsiuri Duruli and Lali Baiadze expressed their gratitude for the congratulations. |

On March 1, 2010 a constituent assembly of the Shida Kartli Tennis Federation was held. Zurab Katsarava, the general secretary of the Tennis Federation of Georgia, attended the meeting. Gori University Rector, Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili was chosen as President of the Shida Kartli Tennis Federation. He noted that he would do his best in order to revive tennis in Shida Kartli. He expressed his hope, that the majority of the University faculty-members and students will by all means be interested in tennis. The main goal of the Federation is to develop tennis in order to support a healthy life and to discover new talents. |

On March 1, 2010 an Open House Day was held at Gori University. Attending the meeting were Shida Kartli school teachers and undergraduates. Gori University Rector, Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili, spoke about the academic curriculums of 2010-2011, and about the innovations at the University and its future plans. Addressing the undergraduates were: Levan Midodashvili (Head of the University Quality Assurance Service), Tsiuri Duruli (University Professor), Nino Markarian (a student with honors, winner of the University 200 lari scholarship) and Teona Kurtauli (a University distinguished student). At the end, the guests were presented with a copy of the Gori University monthly newspaper – “Goris Universiteti”. |

Meeting with the Politicians at Gori University  On February 27, 2010 a meeting with the famous politicians - Ms. Valeria Novodvorskaya, Konstantin Borovoy and a journalist Oleg Panfilov, was held at Gori University V building. Attending the meeting were Mr. Nodar Surguladze (Vice-Minister of Education and Science of Georgia), Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili (Gori University Rector), Zurab Lomidze (Head of the Administration of Shida Kartli Governor), representatives of the community, media and press, faculty-members and students. The August war of 2008 and the Russian-Georgian relationship in the past and today were discussed together with other questions at the meeting. Ms. Valeria Novodvorskaya answered the questions of all those who attended. |
