On January 15, 2018 an election on Rector's position took place  at GSTU . Two candidates were presented for the position and in front of the academic council . Members of the academic council  reviewed document and plans of both candidates and after thorough consideration   majority of the council   decided in favor  of Prof. Aleksandre Mghebrishvili. It was a secret ballot and position was taken for four years period.
