International Day of Women and Girls in Science
11 February,2026An event, dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated each year on 11 February, took place at GSU. The day is celebrated since its proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 and calls for greater participation of women in science to drive scientific, technological and innovative progress. Mr. Aleksandre Mghebrishvili gave an opening speech and talked about the importance of women scientists' roles, professionalism and leadership skills in every field, he also pointed out university’s readiness to support gender equality in academic sphere and how proud and appreciative the university is of women scientists’ work and dedication throughout the history of the institution. Mr. Zurab Zurabashvili, and Mrs. Tsiuri Duruli also addressed the audience.
Mrs. Tamila Koshoridze presented the theses on famous women scientists from Gori. Mrs. Ana Datuashvili presented the theses on women scientists from the foundation of Gori University. Mr. Zurab Zurabashvili gave a lecture on Gori University women scientists and modern times. The rector of the University awarded three successful women with University's 90-year Jubilee medals for their outstanding work: Mrs. Tea Khorguashvili, Mrs. Ketevan Barbakadze and Mrs. Lela Aleksidze. At the end of the event, the academic achievements of successful scholars of the university were exhibited at GSU.
