On April 6,2017, the seminar about Tskhinvali Region: history and politics took place at GSTU. Participants were Professors and teachers from GSTU and Ilia State University, representatives of Gori Municipality and Mayor’s office. At the seminar, parties discussed the settlement of Ossetians on Georgian Territories, establishment of autonomous district of South Ossetia, the history of tragic events in Tskhinvali region during the last years of USSR and post Soviet period, also, the results of the 2008 Russo-Georgian War and the decision of the representatives of de-facto region-to change the name of the administrative-territorial unit to „Republic of South Ossetia-Alania“.Nobody has a right to change toponym deliberately of ancient Georgian territories without consulting the Georgian Citizens. Taking the decision via referendum in reference to this issue, without the direct participation of Georgian population, who were deported from the region is and outrageous act. At the end , participants addressed international society to use all means at hand and raise their voice against this iniquity.
